Saya Suyama
Since the very first time she took a yoga class in 2016, Saya felt something spark inside of her. Six months later, she found herself searching for flights to Thailand to seek more yoga and that sense of happiness evoked by practice. In 2022, she completed her 200 hour certification with Vikasa Yoga online and traveled back to Thailand to complete 100 more hours in person. Two years later in June 2024, she completed her 300 hour advanced yoga teacher certification, again with Vikasa Yoga.
Saya likes to think of asana (the physical practice of yoga) as a form of moving meditation. Her classes are carefully and thoughtfully prepared so that each pose flows seamlessly with the next, while opening the body in all directions of movement. She focuses on alignment and breath to achieve the maximum benefits of yoga. Her classes are also designed to provide a full yogic experience that does not just end with asana.
Aside from teaching, Saya is the studio manager of Kaia Yoga in Mamaroneck. When she is not on the mat, she can be found skiing in the mountains or cuddling with her cats at home.
