yoga is for everyone
When the mind is quiet the asana is correct.
The practice of yoga is an essential part of daily life. Harmony and balance are found by maintaining a strong asana, pranayama (breathwork), and meditation practice. Without practice, the layers of our being become unclear. With practice, life becomes more pure.
The many types and levels of classes available at the Kaia Yoga make yoga accessible to everyone, from beginners to seasoned yogis. There are many reasons to incorporate yoga into your life: to create a healthier lifestyle, to heal a sports injury, to reduce stress or just to achieve a greater level of fitness. Kaia Yoga is committed to helping you achieve optimum health and balance. The centers offer a full schedule of yoga classes in three locations. The new Westport location offers a state of the art hot yoga room as well as an Iyengar room with a rope wall. Throughout all classes, teachers focus on the connection between breath and movement, aiming to create space in the body and calm the fluctuations of the mind. In addition to regular yoga classes there are also opportunities for workshops and teacher training. Relax at a restorative and reflexology workshop or deepen your practice through a 200 hour training, prenatal training and more. Wherever your interests lie, the multitude of classes and offerings will have something to suit your needs and bring more purity to your life.
vinyasa
Vinyasa Yoga syncs breath to movement through a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses. Classes begin with variations on the sun salutations to warm up and then move sequentially through standing and seated poses. The order of the asanas is intelligently designed by each teacher to open up the body, lengthen the breath and calm the mind.
ashtanga
Also a style of vinyasa yoga, Mysore style ashtanga yoga is a flowing sequence of breath driven movements that follows the same sequence every time. Mysore ashtanga is a traditional method of practice that was taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, South India. Students of all levels from the absolute beginner to the most advanced practitioner can progress at their own pace with individual, one-on-one guidance from the teacher. Teacher-led Ashtanga classes offer a glimpse into the discipline and quietness that the sequence brings. Learn more about our Mysore Program.
hot yoga
Heated yoga classes are vinyasa style classes that detoxify the body and mind. The heated studios are in the Westport and Greenwich East locations. Rooms are heated between 90 and 95 degrees and classes range in level.
restorative & yin
These practices aim at igniting the bodies healing potential by balancing the nervous system and helping to initiate the relaxation response in all of the systems of the body.
restorative Restorative yoga allows your body and mind to truly rest. In these classes you will use a variety of props to support your body in relaxing poses while releasing your muscles and tuning into your breath. Each pose is held for 5-15 minutes. Melt your tensions away while opening up your back, hips, and shoulders through supportive poses.
yin A deep practice that requires holding certain postures to stimulate the body's connective tissue and create a greater flexibility. Lots of yummy hip and hamstring opening poses. Complimentary to other more vigorous yoga styles and sports.
